Marjolein Vermeeren

Marjolein Vermeeren (1991) plays flute in the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra/National Orchestra of Sweden since 2018. She is a passionate flautist, conductor, music arranger and teacher. As a freelance flautist Marjolein plays regularly with LUDWIG Orchestra, the Netherlands Philharmonic and Chamber Orchestras, the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and Antwerp Symphony Orchestra. 

She completed her Master’s degree with distinction at the Royal Academy of Music in London (2015) where she studied the flute with Karen Jones and William Bennett, piccolo with Patricia Morris and baroque flute with Lisa Beznosiuk. She was awarded the DipRAM, the Academy’s highest award for an outstanding performance in the final recital, the Katie Thomas Award for a combination of good work, conduct and general achievement. She won the Jonathan Myall Piccolo Prize in 2015 and recently Marjolein was awarded Associateship of the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM), an honorary degree for former students who have distinguished themselves in the profession.  

In The Netherlands she completed a double bachelor degree at the Fontys School of Arts in Tilburg, studying the flute with Leon Berendse and Edith Van Dyck, as well as wind band conducting with Hardy Mertens and Louis Buskens.  

Before she moved to Sweden she was assistent professor of flute at the Tilburg conservatory and conductor of the youth orchestra of Kon. Harmonie Unie in Sevenum and Harmonie-Orkest Noord-Limburg.
