Dirk Luijmes received several awards from (inter) national organ competitions and has performed throughout the world, from Warsaw to New York. He is a passionate harmonium player and commissioned several composers to write music for his instrument. Luijmes concertized with leading ensembles such as Capella Amsterdam, RIAS Kammerchor and the Dutch Chamber Choir. He performed in various special productions like the world premiere of the 1919 version of Les Noces by Stravinsky.
Luijmes has performed at the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Musikverein in Vienna. In 2010 he performed the American premiere of the First Harmonium Concerto by Martijn Padding, with ASKO/ Schoenberg led by Reinbert de Leeuw in Carnegie Hall, New York
Currently he is active as artistic leader of the foundation Longen & Tongen( Longs and Tongues), text writer for the Concertgebouw and as radio producer. He recorded several CDs, for instance a Suite by Froberger, which he discovered. The recording of the Harmonium Concerto by Padding was awarded an Edison in 2011.
