Chekhov Trio

Anna Litvinenko violoncello
Fem Devos piano
The Chekhov Trio is a piano trio founded in Maastricht in 2016. Dutch violinist Emma Rhebergen, American cellist Anna Litvinenko and Belgian pianist Fem Devos like to treat chamber music as a form of theatre: they seek to communicate narrative and dialogue through their endless exploration of characters and roles within the music they perform.
The trio has performed on many stages throughout Belgium and The Netherlands, and has had several appearances on Dutch national radio. It has also achieved success in international competitions, winning the second prize and special “KCB Award†in the 2018 International Music Competition Triomphe de l’Art in Brussels, and being finalists at the 2019 Ysaÿe International Music Competition in Liège. A recent highlight has been the release of an Etcetera records recording of the works of Hans Kox, featuring their performance of his piano trio.
The Chekhov Trio has performed numerous times in the Orlando Festival in Kerkrade, and has also worked extensively with their mentor Henk Guittart, Enrico Bronzi (Trio di Parma), Wolfgang Redik (Vienna Piano Trio), Osiris Trio, Shunske Sato, Shuann Chai, and Sigiswald Kuijken, among others. Emma studied violin with Vera Beths at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague and continued her master studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Maastricht and the ‘concert musician’ programme at the Royal Conservatoire of Brussels with Yuzuko Horigome. After studying at the renowned Julliard School, cellist Anna went to London at the Royal College of Music and then to continental Europe for a master’s degree in early music at the Conservatoire of The Hague with Lucia Swarts. Pianist Fem studied at the Conservatoire of Ghent with Vitaly Samoshko and then also went to the Conservatoire of Maastricht for a master’s degree in piano with Katia Veekmans.
