Ad Hoc at Orlando

As an individual musician you are also very welcome at the Orlando Festival (11 - 21 August 2022). The Orlando Festival offers a special music vacation in a beautiful area in the South of the Netherlands. You will stay in one of the two beautiful Fletcher Hotels in Kerkrade and will receive lessons, have access to a rehearsal space, listen to concerts, visit open lessons and masterclasses and enjoy a lot of chamber music during the festival!

Playing in an ensemble, enjoying concerts and lessons, listening to beautiful chamber music, having interesting conversations with like-minded people: young and old meet at the Orlando Festival!

Enrolment is open to amateur musicians of all ages, and all levels of proficiency are welcome. The Orlando Festival forms Ad Hoc ensembles from the registrations, which usually determine the playable repertoire in consultation. If desired, we are happy to help you find a suitable repertoire. This approach also applies to incomplete ensembles that are looking for one or more players. We would like to help you to find suitable fellow players and, if desired, to find the corresponding repertoire. You can already try to make a start yourself via the musicians website of Huismuziek.

We cannot, of course, guarantee a specific desired ensemble type, but we do our utmost to find a sensible combination -and, if desired, also matching repertoire- so that individual amateurs can also actively participate in Orlando.

All participants reside in one of the two Fletcher Hotels in Kerkrade. The rehearsal spaces and lessons are in the so called cultural HuB of Kerkrade, Theater Kerkrade and the musicschool of Stichting SMK.

All participants and visitors stay on basis of full board and lodging. Everybody meets each other during mealtimes, lessons, rehearsals and concerts. This contributes greatly to the relaxing and unique Orlando atmosphere. After the concert all participants, visitors and musicians can get together in the theater bar, where they can reminisce over the concert and the experiences of the day.

Nieuwe Muziek op Maat

Building on the succes of the Songs & Dances project organized in 2019 and the Nieuwe Muziek op Maat project organized in 2021, Orlando will organize a sequel to this last project in 2022. All participating amateur musicians (Ad Hoc and members of already existing ensembles) could sign up for this extra ensemble course. During the course you will receive practical instructions during the rehearsals and peerforming of new compositions or arrangements with musical and technical challenges in the field of rhythm and ensemble playing.

Due to the great need for playable contemporary music for amateurs, it is important to have music available that allows for variable instrumentations. The music that will be played is of various difficulty levels and can be adapted to special line-ups.

Bas Clabbers will lead both 5-day courses (from 11 until 16 August and from 16 until 21 August) as a teacher and/or conductor.

The results will be presented at both paticipant concerts! More information about this will be announced later on.

Registration and buying tickets is possible from April 1, 2022.

Register before July 1, 2022, stating instrument, age, playing level, and preferred period (11-16 August or 16-21 August). The extensive questionnaire with the registration form is necessary, so we can put together the ensembles as well as possible

You will receive a message about your Ad Hoc on Orlando ensemble in mid-July 2021. Then it is important to choose the repertoire (possibly together with us), so that you can prepare for your party.

The Orlando Festival is moving to the center of Kerkrade! From this year on, an overnight stay one of the two beautiful Fletcher Hotels in Kerkrade will be included in the packagedeals.

Fletcher Hotel-Restaurant Erenstein Castle

Hotel Erenstein Castle consists of a total of 45 rooms. All rooms in Hotel Erenstein are situated in the Carré farm, 150 meter from the castle and are spreaded over several floors (there is no elevator!). Breakfast is served in the breakfast room on the ground floor. With good weather, the terrace will also be open.

Hotel Erenstein Castle is located about a 10-minute walk away from the HuB.Kerkrade. Five- or ten-day bookings are given priority over a room in Erenstein, “first come, first serve”.

Fletcher Hotel-Restaurant Parkstad-South Limburg

Hotel Parkstad has a total of 80 moderns rooms, tastefully decorated and fully equipped. All rooms are located on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors of the hotel. An elevator is available! Breakfast is served in the Brasserie on the 1st floor.

Hotel Parkstad is located a little further away from the city center, near the Parkstad Limburg Foodballstadium. It is about 10 minutes by car to the HuB.Kerkrade. The Orlando Festival will provide a free shuttle service for participants and visitors who do not have own transportations. It is also possible to rent an E-bike at the hotel. The rooms of both hotels are comparable to the comfort rooms of Rolduc. All rooms have a private bathroom and toilet.

Lunch and dinner

The shared lunch will be served every day in the Theater bar in the HuB.Kerkrade. Dinner for all participants and visitors will be served in Erenstein Castle.

Arrival before 12.00 due to the lunch served in the HuB.Kerkrade. Check-in at the hotel is possible from 15.00 on (there is a guarded luggage storage facility in the HuB.Kerkrade);
* From Fletcher Hotel Parkstad there will be a free shuttle service for participants and visitors who do not have their own transport (E-bikes can be rented at the hotel). More information about the shuttle service will follow soon;
* Breakfast (served at the hotel where you are staying), lunch (served at the HuB.Kerkrade) and dinner buffet (served at Erenstein Castle);
* Access to all festival activities during the number of days booked;
* 4 ensemble lessons (a teacher preference can be indicated during the booking process. We try to take this into account as much as possible):
* The possibility to book extra rehearsal rooms for free (in the SMK music school or one of the backstage rooms in the Theater) during the 5 days (1 rehearsal per day will already be included in your schedule):
* Free participation in the ‘Nieuwe Muziek op Maat’ program. You can register for this during the booking process;
* Entrance ticket to the afternoon concert in PLT;
* Entrance ticket to the evening concert in PLT;
* Check out on the day of departure before 11.00. Your Orlando stay ends after breakfast!
